Club FAQ

We are a group of hobby, sideline, and commercial beekeepers dedicated to beekeeping education, and community awareness.

The association is a non-profit, organized November 11, 1974, and was formed to engage in activities promoting the common interest of beekeeping and the general welfare of the honey bee.

Yes, anyone who is a beekeeper or is interested in bees can join. You do not need to own a hive, and you do not need any experience.

There are three ways:

1. You can come to one of our meetings, we’ll have a registration form there and we’ll be able to assist you with any questions you might have.
2. You can attend our annual beginning beekeeping class, we’ll have a registration opportunity there and we’ll be able to assist you with any questions.

We meet on the 4th Tuesday of every month. Q&A starts at 6:00 pm, with the meeting to follow. Other events are announced at meetings and on the website.

Meetings are held at Drury University, Findlay Student Center, 1100 N. Summit Ave, Springfield, MO 65802.

No. Visitors are welcome at any monthly meeting. Come along, sit in on the Q&A, and see whether the club is for you before you join.

You can go to the Missouri State Beekeepers Association website at mostatebeekeepers.org/local-associations and see if there are any associations closer to your location.

Many of our members collect swarms, and some will also remove established colonies from structures. Swarm collection is usually free; removing bees from inside a wall or roof is skilled work and is normally charged for. Agree the terms with the beekeeper before any work starts.

Yes. Our members often volunteer in the public schools to do presentations for our children, and we attend local fairs and farming functions. Email reqinfo@ozarksbeekeepers.org with your date and audience and we’ll try to find someone.
